Talaskia Rd Ferntree Gully

When we bought our house in Upper Ferntree Gully, it was well beyond what is sometimes called, “A Renovator’s Delight”. Significant disrepair (some would argue, a dump!) would be more accurate. However, the house had “good bones” and so we thought we would be able to make something of it. It didn’t take long for us to realise we were in well over our heads.

A mutual friend had introduced us to Anton Engelmayer of Calm Living Homes. As it so happened he had a free space on his calendar and agreed to take us on as a client. Part of the deal was for my wife to understudy him in the process of transforming what was to become our home.

Anton came in, looked around the place and immediately saw the potential of the space we had. He walked us through how the whole internal structure could be re-arranged to create open and bright space, how new features could be easily added, and how to keep or enhance some of the original features that first attracted us to the house in the first place. At all times, Anton was creative and inclusive, taking on board what we wanted to achieve, then helping us to make it so much more. He was also hugely patient and supportive of my wife as she learned the ropes of how to manage and co-ordinate a renovation of this complexity.

As the build progressed, Anton’s no-nonsense approach was evident. Designers, carpenters, bricklayers, plumbers, electricians, glaziers, plasterers, cabinet makers, painters, renderers, tilers, carpet layers…. all were handling with professionalism and aplomb. Everything slotted into place on time – things were done when he said they would be done, and cost what he said up front they would cost. He was also able to adapt and adjust the plan to fit our evolving needs as well.

The end result was everything he had promised and much, much more. Our house was transformed from a 1960’s dark and damaged skeleton, into a modern, bright, spacious and beautifully appointed home. The attention to detail of Anton and his team was phenomenal, right down to the final floor staining to match old and new boards, and the grouting of every seam in the place to give it a flawless finish.

We could not have asked for a better experience and would recommend Anton and his team without hesitation. If we ever renovate or build again, we’ll be looking to Anton to help us on that journey too.
